Moko studied literature at the University of Indonesia.  His essays and critiques have been published in a variety of media including Basis, Horison, Kalam, Kompas, Sinar Harapan, Berita Buana, Berita Nasional, and Suara Karya. He has served as the editor of the magazine Optimis (1983), managing editor of Berita Buku (Ikapi Pusat, 1987-1989), and editor at the publishing house Pustaka Utama Grafiti (1989-1997). In 1996, representing Pustaka Utama Grafiti, he attended the Frankfurt International Book Festival.  He became involved with Komunitas Utan Kayu in 1997. Moko also served as the book editor for KITLV (Koninklijk Instituut voor Taal, Land- en Volkenkunde) Jakarta (1997-2003). KITLV, together with Komunitas Utan Kayu, sponsored a 3-month study in Leiden, The Netherlands (2001) where he undertook research at the University of Leiden to prepare for the creation of his Indonesian Thesaurus, a project that is expected to be completed and published in 2006.
